Drawing From The Figure Bootcamp
The Maine Drawing Exchange is offering a one day workshop on Saturday, June 22. We will be offering this course again every other month.

This workshop is for all levels of Artists who enjoy working from the figure and want to improve their drawing skills.
The class is modeled after Harold Speed’s classic book from 1911, The Practice and Science of Drawing. The main premise of the book is that line drawing and tonal drawing should be taught separately before combining them. Using his theory as our guide, the workshop will be in two parts.
The first half of the class will be devoted to a proper setup, blocking in a drawing and different approaches to line drawing and line drawing techniques. Basic drawing theories will be discussed as well as looking at master drawings for teaching purposes. Students will receive one on one instruction and demonstrations working with a live model.
The second part of the workshop will be devoted to what Harold Speed refers to as mass drawing which is drawing with tone. This will be done primarily with compressed charcoal and ink and brush exercises. The day will end with a light critique. Studentswill leave with the knowledge of how to practice drawing which makes it a great compliment to our Wednesday night drawing group. Space is limited to 12 students.
